What to do in Sodankylä
Sodankylä is located in the heart of Northern Finland, a small, idyllic village on the crossroads of tourists and businessmen alike. Although with a population of only around 9,000 people, Sodankylä never-the-less is a very vibrant and lively village. In the summer the village hosts the famous midnight sun film festival and the popular horse racing competition, and the winter brings tourists from all over the world on their travels in search of Santa.
Karaoke is a fundamental part of the Finnish lifestyle and you can enjoy the karaoke atmosphere, even take part in it, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays in one of the busiest places in Sodankylä, Ravintola Revontuli bar. The place tends to be packed on weekends, so we recommend early arrival to the venue. For fans of live music, we recommend Roope Rante bar, where local bands tend to play on weekends.
Various cultural exhibitions and activities are organised every month, full details of these can be found on http://www.sodankyla.fi/ under the section 'Tapahtumat'. Most organised activities are free of charge and we highly recommend the experience.
